BeanBros - Featured Roaster in December 2025

BeanBros - Featured Roaster in December 2025

As we approach the holiday season, we wanted to share something special with you. It’s been a while since we last featured our own coffee, and this month felt like the perfect moment to reintroduce Bean Bros and our coffee, how we love it! We’ve selected three standout coffees that reflect our Scandinavian-inspired approach, balance, and clarity of flavour. We hope you enjoy exploring them as much as we’ve enjoyed bringing them to you, and we wish you all the very best for the festive season ahead.

What’s the story behind Bean Bros?

Bean Bros was born out of our own growing obsession with specialty coffee after moving to Copenhagen. At the time, it wasn’t easy to explore beans from different roasters, so we decided to create a solution ourselves. That idea became one of the first specialty coffee subscription boxes in Europe.

As we grew, it felt natural to expand into coffee equipment too. A few years ago, we partnered with Varia Brewing and became their European distributor — a collaboration that really kick-started our journey into equipment and has continued to grow ever since.

How do you select who to work with and what coffee to pick?

For our subscription box, we focus on Scandinavian or “Scandinavian-style” roasteries. In practice, this means roasters who roast lighter, work with high-quality specialty beans (85+ and often much higher), and cater to filter-coffee lovers. Most are based in Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Norway, Germany and Belgium, though we occasionally feature Italian or Spanish roasters too - even if Southern Europe tends to lean toward slightly darker profiles.
When it comes to equipment, we look for emerging brands that are not yet represented in Europe or Scandinavia. We’re drawn to companies that push the industry forward through thoughtful design and genuine innovation in brewing tools.

What’s been the biggest challenge in building Bean Bros?

The coffee world moves fast. Trends shift, customer preferences evolve, and what was a bestseller last year might not hold the same place today. Staying ahead means constantly searching for new favourites.
At the same time, competition continues to grow, so remaining relevant while scaling the business is an ongoing challenge, but one we  genuinely enjoy.

How do you measure success?

Working primarily online can sometimes feel isolating, so one of the most rewarding moments is walking into a new specialty café or roastery, introducing ourselves, and realising they already know Bean Bros. That recognition is incredibly motivating. Long-term, our ambition is to become the go-to recommendation for anyone looking for a great coffee subscription or high-quality home brewing equipment.

What do the next 12 months look like for Bean Bros?

After the holiday season, we’ll be heading to the Copenhagen Coffee Festival - one of our favourite events and a great way to kick off the year.
We’re aiming for more meaningful collaborations, like our recent project with MK Studio, where we released limited-edition coffee cups in our signature blue.
We also plan to expand our equipment selection, introduce new brands to Europe, and continue growing our own roastery - while forming new partnerships with cafés who want to serve Bean Bros coffee.

You travel a lot — which events do you most enjoy and why?

The biggest event for us is World of Coffee (WOC). It’s where the global coffee community gathers, and we get to reconnect with so many people in one place.
We also love visiting local festivals such as Amsterdam, Rome and Frankfurt. These give us valuable insight into regional coffee culture and customer preferences, as well as direct feedback on our equipment and coffee. They’re also great for meeting local partners who might not attend WOC.Nothing truly replaces face-to-face connection it’s always more meaningful than chatting online.

The Coffee This Month

Colombia - Villa Betulia - Natural Anaerobic

Colombia Villa Betulia Anaerobic is a specialty coffee from the Finca Villa Betulia in Huila, Colombia, a Caturrón (a rare natural mutation of Caturra) variety grown at 1,500–1,600 m altitude.
It is processed using an advanced anaerobic natural fermentation, which enhances complexity and sweetness. The cup profile is fruit-forward and vibrant. This coffee works well for both filter brewing and espresso, offering a rich and expressive flavour experience.

Kenya - Riakiberu - Washed

Kenya Riakiberu brings the vibrant spirit of central-Kenya’s highlands straight into your cup. Grown by smallholder farmers in the Murang’a region at around 1,650 m, these beans - primarily the famed SL28 and SL34 varieties - are washed and roasted to highlight their expressive character.
The result? A bright, lively coffee with juicy fruit vibes think wild berries, underpinned by smooth maple-syrup sweetness and hints of cocoa, vanilla. Riakiberu is perfect for filter brews or espresso alike.

Colombia - Buena Vista Washed Bourbon Aruzi

Grown on nutrient-rich volcanic soil at high altitude, this rare Bourbon Aruzi varietal is celebrated for its natural sweetness and exceptional clarity. After selective hand-picking, the cherries undergo a meticulous washed process with an extended underwater fermentation that enhances brightness and structure. The result is a refined, vibrant cup with delicate floral and fruit notes think nectarine, blackberry, and plum complemented by soft caramel and honey sweetness.
